Fig. 8.3. Marking of a transmission (1) and such as a transmission (2)

The transmission changes a torque transferred from the engine on size and the direction. In cars are used 4-or 5-step mechanical transmissions of type 02А. The transmission and the main transfer together with differential (fig. 8.1) are located in a separate case and fasten bolts to the block of cylinders of the engine. The arrangement of forks of gear shifting with couplings is shown on fig. 8.2 . Greasing of a transmission is carried out irrespective of the engine. Depending on an engine and car design the corresponding marking is put on a transmission (fig. 8.3) . The mechanism of gear shifting has a hummock drive. At such type of a drive less vibration is transferred to the lever of gear shifting, and vibration of units does not influence gear shifting. According to it the noise level, being transferred through gear wheels, is rather low. One more feature of a hummock drive of the mechanism of gear shifting is that the switching mechanism practically does not demand leaving. At inclusion of transfer there is a choice between cross-section movement (movement of a choice of transfers) in a position of idling and actually switching movement. Both movements, everyone through the cable of switching, are transferred to a shaft of the mechanism of switching of a transmission. Thus the cable of gear shifting rotates a switching shaft round own axis while the cable of a choice of transfers via the bypass lever, changes the provision of a shaft of switching along an axis.
